Mae Phipps, age 83, of Mountain City, Tennessee, formerly of Kennett Square/Avondale, PA, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at her residence. She was born on November 11, 1929, to the late Lillard Davis and Bessie Mae Nichols Strimilin. In addition to her parents, Mae was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Garman Phipps, a brother, Willard Nichols and a special grandmother, Cora Nichols. Mae retired from Hewlett Packard of Avondale, PA, following 30 years of service. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary for many years. Mae enjoyed working in her flowers and vegetable gardens and was known for her good homemade cooking. Mae was a former employee of Lois' Country Café in Mountain City, TN also. She was a very outgoing, friendly person, never a stranger to anyone. Mae attended Doe Valley Baptist Church and was a member of First Baptist Church of Kennett Square, PA. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Mae Phipps Potter and husband Marvin of Mountain City, TN; son, Randy G. Phipps and wife Janet of Oxford, PA; sister, Ella Mae of Ashe County, NC; brother, Leonard Cox and wife Joanne of Ashe County, NC; grandchildren: Dara Rae Wilmont and husband Charles, Kara Allison Phipps, Paula Wheatley, Christie Kay Potter Groover and Jenelle Leigh Potter; four great grandchildren: Hayley Wheatley, Hannah Wilmont, Brynne Wilmont and Troy Wheatley; one great great grandchild, Carter Bailey; friend, Floyd Presnell of Mountain City, TN and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from1-3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2013 at the Mountain City Funeral Home with funeral services to follow at 3:00 pm. with Pastors Roy Dowell and Spencer Roark to officiate. The family will also receive friends at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at the Kuzo-Grieco Funeral Home of Kennett Square, PA. Graveside Service and Interment will follow at the Union Hill Cemetery, Kennett Square, PA with Pastor Robert Vannoy to officiate. Pallbearers are Randy Phipps, Robert Snyder, Gary Bonsall, Jimmy Bonsall, Charles Wilmont and Don Greer. Memorial donations in Mae's memory be made to the Doe Valley Baptist Church, c/o Roy Dowell, 6530 Hwy 421 S., Mountain City, TN 37683. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home, 373 Old Butler Road, Mountain City, TN 37683. Condolences may be sent to the family through our website at www.mountaincityfh.com.
