Walter Joe Widener

Walter Joe Widener, 85, Damascus, Virginia, passed away Monday, May 11, 2026 in the Watauga Medical Center., Boone, North Carolina. He was born August 5, 1940 in Damascus, Virginia to the late Clarence and Mary Ellen Eggers Widener. Joe was a truck driver for 40 years. He loved farming and playing the Guitar. He was of the Christian Church Faith and attended the Taylors Valley Christian Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister; Patsy Rice and a brother: Ed Widener.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years: Mary Roberts Widener. Two Children: Maurice (Pat) Widener and Valorie Widener. Several nieces and nephews. Also his special buddy his cat “Speckles”.

Graveside Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 16, 2026 at the Mausoleum Chapel, Knollkreg Cemetery, Abingdon, Virginia with Mr. Bud Gentry, Minister officiating. Friends may visit with the family 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday prior to the graveside service Honorary Pallbearers will be his family, friends and neighbors.
