Walter Ackermann

Walter Gustav Ackermann, age 85, beloved husband of Louise Morley Ackermann , was carried into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Saturday, September 3, 2022, in Spartanburg, SC. A native of Basel, Switzerland, he was the son of the late Gustav Adolph and Gertrud (Trudi) Ackermann. He was actively involved with First Baptist Church of Spartanburg. A global citizen, Walter spoke five languages fluently. Standing 6’4”, he was affectionately called “daddy long legs” and addressed as Vati by his children. Walter was ever positive and uplifting, he liked to whistle a happy tune, was always solving a new math problem, and he loved the Lord fervently. Walter is survived by his wife, Louise Morley Ackermann. He is also survived by three of his four children, Basil Ackermann and his wife Li Bai of Zürich, Switzerland; Evelyn Cate Galletti and her husband Gabriel Galletti of Nashville, TN; and Dr. Frances L. Cate and her husband Lawrence Luckey, also of Nashville, TN; and six grandchildren, Lukas Ackermann, David Ackermann, Louis Gabriel Galletti, Martha Cate Galletti, Carson Charles Luckey, Robert Harrison Luckey and step-son, Christopher Mullins. Ackermann’s fourth child, Ronald Walter Ackermann of the Netherlands passed away earlier this year. A graveside service is planned in Shady Valley, TN where Walter and Louise shared many fond days on the Morley’s family farm, a place reminiscent of Switzerland for Walter. The graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at Shady Valley Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be sent to the family through our website at www.mountaincityfh.com.
