V. J. ( Jay ) Day

Jay Day, age 78, went home on Friday September 11, 2026 at Watauga Medical Center in Boone, NC. Jay was born May 17, 1948 in Watauga County to the late Clyde Day and Mary Watson Day of Boone, NC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lawrence and Beulah Day and Turner and Blanche Watson, his in laws, Ray C. and Virginia Shoun, brother-in-law, Randy Shoun.

Jay spent many years working in Boone, NC at Vermont American and Shadowline plant and later worked at Northeast Correctional facility in Mountain City, TN; but his greatest love was working in the church and being co-owner with his wife Joy at The Lighthouse Christian Book Store in Mountain City. Jay loved to travel, he and Joy visited all 50 states and Alaska three times. He loved camping, fishing and hunting.

Jay is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joy Shoun Day of Mountain City, TN; sister-in- law, Pattie Taylor, brother-in-law, Rick Taylor of Shady Valley, TN; nephews, Austin Ray Shoun and Matt T. Shoun of Shady Valley, TN; two fur babies, Sammie and Rusty.

Per Jays wishes no formal service will be held, private family burial service will be held at a later date.
