Shirley Wiles

Shirley Christine Wiles, age 86, of Mountain City, TN passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at her home, 204 Industrial Dr. Shirley was born in Crockett, VA, Wythe County, on April 15, 1936 to the late Lee Henry Williams and Hattie Jane Grubb Williams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by several sisters and brothers and a special friend, Doris Talblert. 

Shirley was a deli manager for Harris Teeter super market in Chapel Hill, NC for 15 years. Shirley was the class of 1955 at Alexandria Wilson High School in Graham, NC. In 2018, Shirley attended her class reunion and as she put it “there were 52 of the 63 still clicking at that time.”

Shirley was our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Family was the most important thing to her. She was always there to help someone when needed. Shirley was someone if you ever had the pleasure of meeting her, you would never forget her and she would never forget you.

Those left to cherish her memories include her sons, Gary Ray (Speedy) Leonard (Eva ) of Laurel Bloomery, TN, Willard Dale Pendergraft of the home, David Keith Pendergraft (Connie) of South Carolina; six grandchildren, Casie Renee Leonard (Jason) of Mountain City, TN, Ashley Pendergraft of Trade,TN, Heather Roark (Bo) of Goldsboro, NC, Sydney Lynn Pendergraft (Josh) of Burlington, NC, Racheal Vaught and Benji Bower of Mountain City, TN; fifteen great-grandchildren, Taylor Williams (Ashley), Dustin Knighten (Kinsley), Cory Williams (Sydney), Zackery Laird, Isabella Vaught, LeeAnna Vaught, Aden Neatherly, Railey & Marley Matheson, Sadie, Graysie & Hadlie Roark,  Jace Walls, Waylon & Gunner Glasco; great-great-grandchildren, Rylie & Kylie Williams, Scarlet & Brayden Knighten, Myla Williams; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation for family & friends will be held on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at Mountain City Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Entombment will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 from Alamance Memorial Park Cemetery in Burlington, NC at 2:00 p.m.
