Shirley Morefield Widener, age 83 of Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee, went to be with her Lord April 24, 2024. She was born May 9, 1940 to the late Ferd Morefield and Maggie Warren Morefield. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Widener; sisters, infant Ileen Morefield, Charlotte Morefield Huggins, Gladys Morefield Thornton, Clare Morefield May, Vernie Morefield, Bertie Morefield; brother, Carl Morefield; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Those left to cherish her memories include her sister, Katherine Morefield Wheatley; brother, Russell Morefield; nieces, Carolyn Huggins Burns, Margie Morefield Brackin, Tammy Morefield Widener; nephews, Bobby Thornton, Wayne May, Ronnie May, David May, Kenny May, Billy Morefield, Jimmy Morefield; several great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.

Shirley was a member of the 1958 JCHS graduating class and studies at Walters State Community College. She was a member of Bethel Community Church formerly St. John’s Methodist Church in Laurel Bloomery, where she served on administrative boards and several other offices of church. She also played the piano and sang in the choir. She worked as a legal secretary for 9 years, administrative secretary for Burlington Industries for 20 years, and office manager at Bike Athletic Company for 13 years. After her retirement, she worked part-time as a medical secretary and substitute teacher.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 -3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2024 at Mountain City Funeral Home with services to follow, officiated by Rev. Billy Morefield and Tom Prater. Special music will be provided by Jackie Warden. Burial will follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in the Laurel Bloomery Community. Pallbearers will be Eric Taylor, Kenny Icenhour, Jason Blevins, Larry Burns, Rick Widener, and Matthew Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Carolyn Guinn, Evelyn Hill, Debbie Taylor, and members of Bethel Community Church.

At other times, friends and family may call at the residence, 165 Bertie Morefield Lane, Laurel Bloomery.
