Sheryl Courtney

Sheryl Lynn Courtney, age 67, passed away March 2, 2026 at Mountain City Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born November 11, 1958 in Ridgewood, NJ to Jeanne A. Courtney and the late Franklin L. Courtney. In addition to her father, Sheryl was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Chester Johnson.

Sheryl is survived by her mother, Jeanne A. Courtney; sister, Deborah A. Courtney; brother, Lee Courtney; and many cousins.

Sheryl was always fun-loving and never met a stranger. She was outgoing and loved fishing, laughing, watching movies, camping, reading her Bible and devotionals, discussing politics, and was a huge Nascar racing fan. Her favorite singer was Bob Dylan. Most of all Sheryl loved being with people, especially her special friends. Her career was managing restaurants, painting houses, and her last position was working as an Intake Coordinator with the Johnson County Probation Office. Sheryl lived in New Jersey in her early years, moving to Boone, NC and then later to Mountain City. She will be dearly missed, but she is in a better place – at home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2026 at Mountain City Funeral Home.
