Selmer Potter

Selmer C. Potter, age 88 of Mountain City, TN passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at Mountain City Care & Rehabilitation Center. He was born on February 1, 1934 in Mountain City, TN to the late Wiley T. and Emma J. Potter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife June; devoted daughter, Carolyn Baughman; brothers, Gurney and Kermit Potter; sister, Mable J. Roark and nephew, Gurney M. Potter, Jr. Selmer proudly retired back to Mountain City in 1983 after a very successful 31 year career in the paint department of General Motors Corp. in Wilmington, DE. His second career, as a farmer, began shortly after his retirement from General Motors. He and his wife June, along with his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Hayse and Jean Gentry remodeled his grandfather’s old farmhouse that became his home for 39 years. In addition to being a loving husband and devoted father, he loved listening to country music with his many friends on Saturday nights, raising cattle, gardening and taking care of his cars and his home. Those left to cherish his memories include several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends and neighbors. A special thanks to the Mountain City Care Center staff for the loving care Selmer received over the past six months. A private graveside service will be held on Friday, March 4, 2022 at the Martin Family Cemetery in Mountain City.
