Sam Rutter

Sam Rutter Sam Rutter, age 69, of Shady Valley, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at the Bristol Regional Medical Center. Sam was born on May 15, 1953 to the late Ciscero and Ivadean Rutter. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Manuel, and a brother, Herbert Rutter. Sam loved UT football, the New York Yankees, and the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He liked softball and all other sports. Sam had a deep love for his family and his dog, Josie. Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 34 years, Rebecca Rutter; children, Jennifer (Jeff) Jones, Jamie (Misste) Phillippi, Jeremy (Wendy) Phillippi, and Jessica Phillippi; twelve grandchildren, Jeffrey Cross, Justin Cross, Jacob Cross, Christian Phillippi, Tanner Phillippi, Brynna Phillippi, Tre Omo, Landon Phillippi, Gracen Phillippi, Catie Campbell, Lily Phillippi, and Alex Phillippi; sisters, Phyllis Shepherd, Lois Roark, Shelby (Dale) Hodge, Glenda (Wayne) Shepherd, and Betty Henson; brothers, David (Linda) Rutter and Larry Rutter; sisters-in-law, Mildred (Jim) Henley and Bonnie Woodward; brother-in-law, George Thomas; and several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 22, 2022 at Mountain City Funeral Home. At other times friends may call at the home of Jeremy and Wendy Phillippi at 31192 Nova Drive, Damascus, VA 24236. The family would like to express thanks to the first responders of Shady Valley Fire Department and the staff of Fresenius Dialysis Center. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Shady Valley Fire Department at 134 McQueen Road, Shady Valley, TN 37688.
