Ruth Marie Williams

Ruth Marie Matherly Williams, age 98 of Ormond Beach, FL and formerly of Mountain City TN, went to be with her Lord on September 23, 2023 at Ormond Beach Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

Marie was a wonderful wife, mother, and devoted grandmother. She loved to draw, paint, and write poetry. Taking care of her flowers where she lived and at her church was one of her passions. Wherever she lived or traveled, she would tell stories of growing up on the farm and having such a large loving family.

Marie was born in Butler, Tennessee on March 22, 1925 to the late Edward and Georgia Cress Matherly. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by husbands, Samuel P. (Buster) Rankins, Claude D. Williams; beloved son, Ronald P. (Ron) Rankins; brothers, Guy (Verdie) Matherly, Murel (Mary) Matherly, Elbert Matherly; brother-in-law Ted Pierce; twin sister, Margie (James) Baily; sisters, Bonalee (Lealand) Matherly, Esther (Vaughn) Wagner, Mildred (Everet) Cole, Virginia (Jess) Davis; several of her very loved nieces and nephews, and her church and fishing partner, Darrius Forrester.

Those left to cherish her memories include her son, Donald R. (Kathy) Rankins of Mountain City; daughter, Susan Davis of Ormond Beach, FL; grandchildren, Steven A. Rankins of Los Angeles, CA and Brook Davis (Jeremy) Anderson of Edgewater, FL; sister, Sue Pierce of Butler; brother, Paul (Elfriede) Matherly of Scottsdale, AZ; sister-in-law, Marie Matherly of Butler; many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Marie wished to be cremated and her ashes brought back to the Tennessee Mountains. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
