His final two years were spent living in Mountain City with his oldest daughter, Cheryl, who served as his caretaker.

Rudy is survived by his three children, Cheryl Smith (husband Scott), Rudiann Coleman, and David Kollar, along with grandchildren Charles, Ryan and Joshua (Smith), Stephanie and Valerie (Coleman), and great grandchildren Ambrie, Jeanne and Revel. Rudy was predeceased by his parents, wife Jeanne, and siblings Florence (Sheridan), Claire (Herman), Frank, and Augustine.
