Ruby McCulloch

Ruby McCulloch, age 91, passed away May 14, 2025 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was born August 3, 1933 to the late Roby Woodard and Hassie Johnson Woodard. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Grady Stout and Thomas McCulloch; two sons, Bob Stout and Douglas Stout; sister, Anita Roark; and nieces, Connie Roark and Jodi Devereaux.

Ruby was a Johnson County native and worked in the county her whole life, including her work as a chef at Cook’s Cafeteria and office manager at Bob Stout Construction. She had an incredible work ethic and drive which influenced her family and inspired those around her. Ruby was known for her enormous heart. She had a love for people and it brought her joy to care for others and check on them. Additionally she was a tremendous cook, particularly her banana pudding and biscuits and gravy. She enjoyed bluegrass and gospel music and was a huge basketball fan. Ruby was a member of Vaught’s Gap Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish her memories include her grandson, Grady Stout (Evelyn); granddaughter, Brandy Bennett (Chuck); great-grandchildren, Alexis Bennett, Maddox Bennett, Roland Stout, Anna Stout, and Robert Reed Stout; brother, John Woodard (Julie); niece and nephews, Leigh Evin, Tyler Woodard, Ryan Woodard, and Kenny Roark; sister-in-law, Peggy Pope (Dean); special family and friends, Lucille Brown, June Thomas, Judith Shull, Becky Sewell, Kathy McCulloch, Susie Yoggerst, and Jack Stout.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, 2025 at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. with Pastor Chuck Morefield officiating. The burial will follow at Stout Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jody Hawkins, Jack Stout, Billy Jack Stout, Jace Stout, Dustin Tester, and Thomas Moore.
