Listen to Obituary

Rickey “Rick” Allen Proffitt, 70, of 1147 Ferebee Ave. Chesapeake VA, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025. Born on April 16, 1955, in Elizabethton Tennessee, Rick left his home state in 1978 and settled in Virginia, where he built a beautiful life surrounded by family, friends, and love.

Rickey is survived by his two children, son, Jonathan Proffitt; daughter, Jessica Proffitt; brother, Russell Proffitt; and two grandchildren; granddaughter, Tamiah Gantt; grandson, Chase Proffitt.

Rickey is preceded in death by his father, Harrison Proffitt; mother, Crathie Proffitt; five brothers, Coy Proffitt, Charles Proffitt, Dorsey Proffitt, Marvin Proffitt, and Hantford Proffitt; and two sisters, Bertha Scott, and Sue Raykowitz.

Rick dedicated over 30 years of his career to Kmart, where his hard work and friendly nature earned him the respect of coworkers and customers alike. After Kmart, he began a second career at Plasser America, working in building maintenance until his retirement.

Outside of work, Rick found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved hunting, fishing, playing the guitar and banjo, and sharing his love of music with those around him. Whether he was spending time with his children, “loafering,” or working, Rick’s easygoing personality and sense of humor made every moment brighter.

Rick will be remembered as a kind-hearted, generous man who always opened his home and his heart to others. He lived by his word, protecting and caring deeply for his family, and took pride in always keeping his promises.

Rick will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him, but his warmth, laughter, and loving spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Monday, October 13, 2025 at Mountain City Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow from Reece Memorial Cemetery.
