Richard L Barnes

Richard L. Barnes, age 86, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at the Ivy Hall Nursing Home, Elizabethton, TN.  He was born on October 1, 1932 in Narrows, Virginia to the late Joseph and Minnie Lawson Barnes. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Barnes and sister, Dorothy Kolrich.

He was a United States Army Veteran.  Following his military career, Richard became a truck driver and worked in the construction business for many years.  He was a member of the VFW Post 5892 in Hockessin, Delaware.  Richard loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing.   

He was a member of Dyson Grove Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 63 years, Lorraine L. Barnes, daughter, Wanda Gail Potter and fiancé Scott Pollock of Decatur, Indiana; son and daughter-in-law, David Lee Barnes and wife Jackie of North Carolina; grandchildren, Randy Lee Potter and Robert Wayne Potter; great grandchildren, Ginanni, Cory Wayne, Anna, Karlie, Randy Jr and David Cole; his beloved dog, Barney; several nieces and nephews.  

The family will receive friends from 2-3:30 p.m. Sunday, November 4, 2018 at the Dyson Grove Baptist Church.  Funeral service will follow at 3:30 p.m. with Pastor Leonard Fletcher officiating.  Special music will be provided by the Church Choir.  Graveside service and interment will follow the funeral at the Dyson Grove Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Robert Potter, Randy Potter, Brandon Stanley, Billy Wilson, Scott Pollock and Jack Johnson.

At other times the family will receive friends at the home, 188 Clarence Stout Lane, Mountain City, TN
