Harold ‘Ray’ Mabe, age 61, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday evening, December 29, 2018. He was born on November 16, 1957 to the late Gale and Earlene Gentry Mabe.
Ray loved music and was a gifted musician who could play several different instruments. He also enjoyed a good baseball game. He was an accomplished umpire who was chosen to officiate the Senior League World Series in Bangor, Maine. He grew up in the Avon Grove Little League System. In later years Ray played softball at A class level. He felt most at home while on the ball field.
Ray was a maintenance technician who was also certified in HVAC.
Ray was a good man who loved his family and friends and will be dearly missed. He was of the Baptist faith and called Jesus Christ his personal Lord and Savior.
Those left to cherish his memories include his children, Faith Mabe, Michael Ray Mabe and wife Katherine; sisters, Helen Gill and husband Jimmy, Shirley Trent and husband Bob, Brenda Salmons and husband Buck and Carolyn Clark; brother, Thomas Mabe and wife Diane; grandson, Colton Allen Ford; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 3, 2019 at the Mountain City Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Ray’s nephew, Jeffrey Stout officiating. Eulogy will be given by Michael White, his dear friend. Graveside service and interment will follow the funeral at the Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Mike White, Derrick Reece, Justin Dugger, Marcus Stout, Adam Reece, Joey Salmons and Jordan Salmons. Honorary pallbearers are Daniel Reece, Robert Reece, Jon Stout, bucky Salmons, Buck Salmons, Jimmy Gill, Bob Trent, Chris Mabe and David Abernethy.
In lieu of flowers memorials in Ray’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
At other times the family will receive friends at the home of Ray’s niece, Christine Abernathy, 452 E. Main Street, Mountain City, TN.
