Porter Stout, age 90 of 193 Vaught Stout Ln., Butler, TN, passed away on Saturday evening around midnight, May 25, 2025 at his home following a brief illness. Porter was born April 26, 1935 in Butler, TN to the late David Vaught Stout and Dora Brookshire Stout. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Stout; two sons, Rick Stout and Willard Stout, brother-in-law, Mark McEwen.
Porter was a truck driver for all of his life retiring from Roadway Express, having driven 3.5 million safe miles. Porter served in the United States Air Force and was a 1958 graduate of the Johnson City Vocational School as a machinist. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Those that knew him best, knew Porter could be found at a ballgame or fishing on the lake. He was an avid lover of sports, especially the Johnson County Longhorns. He was also a long-time supporter of youth sports in Johnson County having attended countless games where he could tell you what happened in those games and who won them. He was also known for his garden where most years, he planted about 160 tomato plants along with much more. Porter enjoyed being out on his tractor, working in the hay and when he could get a trip to Watauga Lake, with his boat to fish, or to Topsail, NC where he would fish for hours on end.
Those left to cherish his memories include his daughter, Sandra Pleasant and husband David, son Troy Stout; grandchildren, Amanda Boone (Justin), Richard Stout, Chris Pleasant (Danielle), Scotty Pleasant (Courtney) and Deirdre Lunsford (Brad); great-grandchildren, Marissa Soto (Alberto), Ethan Gibson, Ryan Gibson, Ashley Boone, Chase Boone, Gracie Stout, Gabbie Pleasant, Amelia Pleasant, Waylon Pleasant, Hayden Pleasant, Neyland Pleasant, Loki Osborne, Bradlee Lunsford, and Macon Lunsford; great-great grandson Malakai Soto; Sister Amelia McEwen and numerous nieces and nephews; special friend and companion, Katherine Cullop and his bonus family Danny Cullop (Patsy), Randy Cullop (Kristen), Shawna Thomason (Jonathon), Eric Cullop, Brandon Cullop (Lia Bobek), Amber Cullop and Violet Thomason and friends from his favorite eating places.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. with Pastors Jamie Bodiford and Ricky Campbell officiating. The graveside service and burial with military honors accorded by Johnson County Honor Guard will follow at Shoun-McEwen Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Pleasant, Scotty Pleasant, Richard Stout, Eric Cullop, David Pleasant, Brad Lunsford and Loki Osborne. Honorary pallbearers include Joe Atwood, Austin Atwood, Mike Atwood, JR Campbell, Carter Baker, Tim Brown, Larry Danner, David Arnold, Travis Wilson, Larry Rutter, Mike and Temple Reece, Danny Cullop, Randy Cullop, Brandon Cullop and all past and present Longhorn coaches and players.
