Paul Douglas Straesser, age 81, passed away Friday, June 5, 2026 at his home in Butler, Tennessee. He was born on July 17, 1944 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to the late Robert and Helen Straesser.
Paul was a man whose passions brought joy not only to himself but also to those fortunate enough to be in his orbit. Though he began cooking later in life, he embraced the art wholeheartedly, growing his own vegetables and garlic. Many remember (and are soon going to run out of) his special pepper seasoning, lovingly known as “P.P.” (Paul’s Pepper).
Paul’s love for the outdoors was evident in the special touches he created around his home. He crafted Briar Hills, a nine-hole golf course and target-only shooting range on the property, inviting friends and family to enjoy these pursuits with him. He also loved freshwater fishing & boating, as well as collecting antique oil lamps and matcholders.
It was love at first sight when Paul first saw and spoke with Sandy, his beloved wife, at Indiana Beach Amusement Park in 1964. They shared a beautiful 60 years of marriage filled with love and adventures. He adored his dogs, Beau & Gigi, who loved to romp around the outdoors while he worked on his many projects. He was affectionately known as “Pap Paw” to his grandkids with whom he wholeheartedly shared his love of the outdoors.
To carry on Paul’s love for rescue animals - in lieu of flowers - donations to Rescue Dog & End of Life Sanctuary would be greatly appreciated, https://www.rescuedogandendoflifesanctuary.org
The family will recieve friends from 6:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2026 at Dewey Christian Church. A memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. with Preacher Bud Gentry officiating.
