Norman Ray Gentry, age 83, of George Jenkins, Rd; Shady Valley, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday morning, September 26, 2024 at his home. He was born on September 1, 1941 in Shady Valley to the late Clyde Gentry and Versie Long Gentry. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Darlene Barry Church, Shirley McCroskey and Shelby Myers. 

Norman graduated from Johnson County High School. He was a member of Shady Valley Presbyterian Church. Norman retired from Kennametal Inc. of Johnson City, TN after 40 years of service. He was a United States Army veteran from July 1963 thru July 1966 and was in the 1st Cavalry and was stationed in Korea. Norman was a member of the Shady Valley Volunteer Fire Department. He also enjoyed fishing, Nascar, Football and his hobby was farming.

Norman is survived by his loving wife , Dolores Wyatt Gentry; son, Larry Gentry and wife Nikki; one sister, Barbara Gregory and husband Danny Ray; one brother, William Dean Gentry; several nieces and nephews. 

Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. from the Gentry Cemetery with Norman Taylor officiating, Military Honors will be accorded by Johnson County Honor Guard, and conclusion by Shady Valley Fire Department. Anyone who would like to join the family in procession to the cemetery is asked to meet at Shady Valley Presbyterian Church by 1:30 p.m. prior to the graveside service. Pallbearers will be Conley Gentry, Jeff Peters, Mark Gentry, Lonnie Long, Brian Hutchinson, and Ben McGlothlin. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Floyd Barker, Terry Hutchinson, Nathan Saltz, Duane Hand, Jack Hutchins and members of the Shady Valley Volunteer Fire Department.

The family would like to say Thanks to Dr. Floyd Barker and wife Beth along with the office staff, members of the Shady Valley Fire Dept, Johnson County Rescue Squad, Amedysis Hospice Care especially Joanie McQueen and to his many friends who showed him so much kindness during his illness.
