Norma Jean Snyder Ransom, 85, passed away on April 18, 2024. She was born June 18, 1938 to the late Glenn C. and Polly Snyder in Butler TN. Additionally, those preceding Norma in death include her sisters, Eleanor Vannoy, Vida Bunting, and Fran Kitchell.
Norma was loved by many people, as a young girl she was affectionately called “Babe” (she was the youngest of the five sisters), as a wife, she was often called “Honey” but the name most knew her by was “Mamaw.” Norma taught in the Johnson County School system (18 years total) as a home economics teacher and later she started the commercial foods program when the Vocational School opened. She loved teaching others!
She then opened Building Blocks Daycare with her husband, Frank, and served many families in that capacity for 17 years. This earned her the name of Mamaw Ransom to more than just her grandchildren. Mamaw to many, Norma was constantly surrounded by children! She loved to teach, read, cook, sing and serve her family. Norma and Frank celebrated 62 years of marriage this past February. They served the Lord together through church, the school system, and the Daycare/Christian school. Her legacy will live on through the lives she touched.
Those left to cherish her memory includes her husband, Frank Ransom, sister Wilma Bunting, sons Roger Ransom (Teresa) and Glenn Ransom (Kathy). Her grandchildren include Jennifer Dorsey (Randy), Rebekah Messer (Gideon), Sarah Arnold (Justin), Rachel Ransom, Daniel Ransom (Valerie), Leah Ransom (Dalton) and Joshua Ransom. The great grandkids include Gage and Rayne, James and Priscilla, and Joanna and Judah.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00pm on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at Mountain City Funeral Home at 224 S. Church Street in Mountain City, TN 37683. The funeral will follow directly at 3:00pm. Norma will be buried at the Mountain Home National Cemetery.
