Ned “Pat” Patterson Greene

Ned “Pat” Patterson Greene, age 89, passed away on March 24, 2023. Pat was born on April 7, 1933 at home in Amantha, NC to the late Herman Lawton and Bessie Pearl Greene. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandsons, Evan Lewis, Charles McMillan; brother, Carlock Greene; brothers-in-law, Rev. JD Rash, Billy Ray Rash, Roy Poe; sisters-in-law, Joyce Rash, Frances Peregrine, Mary Sue Greene; nephew, Jeff Poe; niece, Susan Mast Long.

Pat was the most loving Dad and Grandad; he was loved by everyone who knew him. He was known for his story telling and his great sense of humor. He was a life-long fan of Duke University basketball, Tennessee Vols football, and enjoyed golf and old cars. He was an amazing Christian man. Pat and Mary attended Evergreen Baptist Church in Trade, TN for many years where he was ordained as a deacon. Later they faithfully attended First Baptist Church in Mountain City where he served as a deacon as well. He attended Caldwell Community College where he received his associate’s degree in business. Pat was a veteran of the United States Navy where he began his 35 year career as a barber aboard ship. Pat owned and operated Greene’s Barber Shop for many years and was considered a Master Barber. He was also a rural letter carrier for many years.

Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 65 years, Mary Rash Greene; son, Garry  Greene and wife Denise daughter, Kimberly Dean and husband Adam; brother, James Henson Greene; grandchildren, Jessica Lunceford, Kristopher Blevins, Devan Lewis, Harley Greene; great grandchildren, Sarah Presnell, Bella Presnell, Landyn Greenlee, Oliver Blevins, Elizabeth Blevins, Waylon McMillan, Lexie Reno; sisters-in-law, Margaret Mast and husband Eugene, Shirley Rash, and Carolina Greene; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at First Baptist Church in Mountain City. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Danny Cullop officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Mike Lewis, Randy Stewart, English John, Jerry Jordan, Terry Jordan, and Todd Grayson. Honorary pallbearers will be Eugene Mast, Scott Mast, Steve Poe, David Rash, James Rash, Jim Greene, Kevin Greene, Bill Greene, Randy Greene, Danny Cullop, Larry Wallace, and members of the First Baptist Church Sunday school class. Military honors will be accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard.
