Mary Lewis Winebarger, age 77 of Creston born October 12, 1944 passed away at home April 21, 2022. She was employed at Hanes in Jefferson from 1964-1972. She retired from babysitting after 26 years in her home. She then retired from Appalachian State University. After retiring from ASU she started working at Tweetsie Railroad and also retired from there. She was a faithful member of Pine Mountain Baptist Church where she was also treasurer. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Roy Lee Winebarger; her parents Earmon and Lois Lewis; brothers Max, Bruce and Jodie Lewis, and sister Jewel Dean Potter. She is survived by her daughters Gloria (James) Payne and Karen Winebarger of Creston; her grandchildren Tyrel (fiancé Erin) Winebarger of Boone, Ryan Payne of Creston, Thea (Jesse) Ball of West Jefferson and Trace (Brittney) Cannon of Creston; her great grandchildren Kenton Ball, Kaydilee Ball, Corbin Darnell, Desmond Ball, and Cora Cannon. She is also survived by her sisters Iva Lea (Howard) Miller of Creston, Bonnie Brown of Mountain City, and Evelyn Weaver of Todd. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2022 at the funeral home with Jesse Ball and Derrick Wilson officiating. The graveside service and burial will follow on Pine Mountain at the Roy Winebarger Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tyrel Winebarger, Ryan Payne, Trace Cannon, Ronnie Brown, Eric Miller, Sampson Lewis, Kevin Roberts, and Timmy Lewis. Honorary pallbearers are Jesse Ball, Kenton Ball, and Corbin Darnell. At other times the family will be receiving friends and family at the home of Gloria and James Payne at 1085 Brushy Fork Road, Creston, NC.
