Mary Pennington

Mary Alice Pennington, age 87, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025. She was born December 5, 1937 to the late Jesse Bishop and Lola Gentry Bishop. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, Blaine Pennington; grandchild, Amber Fisher; son-in-law, Ralph Morefield; and brother, Coy Bishop.

Mary enjoyed crafting, making jewelry, and cooking. She was known for her beautiful quilts and loving personality. Mary was “Mawmaw” to so many children who were influenced by her love and care.

Those left to cherish her memories include her daughters, Teresa Slone (John) and Sheila Morefield; sons, Randy Pennington (Teresa), Martin Pennington (Amy), and Blaine Pennington; brother, Norval Bishop; Mary was also blessed with many grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 1:00- 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Steven Spencer officiating. The burial will follow at Stateline Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Summerow, Tony Summerow, Brandon Pennington, Nathanial Summerow, Corey Summerow, and Tyler Yarber. Honorary pallbearers are Tyler Pennington, Payton Grizzle, and Jeremy Rice.
