Mary Jo Greene, age 88, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday evening, February 5, 2026 at Oakmont at Gordon Park in Bristol, Va. Mary was born on January 24, 1938 in Trade, TN to the late Ernest George Rash and Ruth Ollie Michael Rash. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Ned “Pat” Greene who passed away March 24, 2023; grandsons, Evan Lewis, Charles McMillan; brothers, Rev. JD Rash (Joyce), Billy Ray Rash; sister, Frances Lee Peregrine (Roy), son-in-law, Ricky Harmon; sister-in-law, Mary Sue Greene; nephew, Jeff Poe; niece, Susan Mast Long.

Mary was the most loving Mom and Grandmother; she was loved by everyone who knew her. Mary and Pat attended Evergreen Baptist Church in Trade, TN for many years. Later they faithfully attended First Baptist Church in Mountain City where she helped with meals, childrens activities, and C.A.R.E. team E. Mary worked as a teacher’s aide for many years with the Johnson County School System at Trade, Laurel Bloomery and Mountain City. She helped her niece with floral arrangements and was known to decorate cakes for special occasions. Mary worked as a Library Assistant at Northeast Correctional Complex for several years. She loved being outdoors, gardening, working in the yard and deer hunting alongside her husband Pat. She also took pride in taking care of her home. Mary was a 1956 graduate of Johnson County High School.

Those left to cherish her memories include her son, Garry Greene and wife Denise daughter, Kimberly Dean and husband Adam; sisters, Margaret Mast and husband Eugene, Shirley Rash; grandchildren, Jessica Lunceford, Kristopher Blevins (Crystal), Devan Lewis, Harley Greene, Melody Winebarger (David) and Carrie Boeve (Luke); great grandchildren, Sarah Presnell, Bella Presnell, Landyn Greenlee, Oliver Blevins, Elizabeth Blevins, Sailor and Noah Winebarger, Waylon McMillan, Lexie Reno, Evan Boeve; brother and sister-in-law, James Henson Greene (Carolina); several nieces, nephews, Shirlene Pardue, Steve Poe, Karen Davenport, Scott Mast, Mary Ann Muse, David Rash, Kathy Cornett, Rachel Rash, James Rash, Bill, Randy, Carla, Teresa and Kevin Greene and several cousins.

The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 8, 2026 at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. with Danny Cullop and Scott Mast officiating. Special music will be provided by Adam McCracken. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Mike Lewis, Gary Lewis, Mark Harry, Mike Michael, Randy Stewart and Todd Grayson. Honorary pallbearers will be Eugene Mast, Scott Mast, Steve Poe, David Rash, James Rash, Jim Greene, Kevin Greene, Bill Greene, Randy Greene, Wayne Wilson, Danny Cullop, Larry Wallace, and members of the First Baptist Church especially her Fidelis Sunday school class.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and caregivers of Elite Hospice, Oakmont at Gordon Park, and Dr. John Mann and Michael Baines, PA-C.
