Mary Ellen (Moody) Greer entered into eternal rest on January 2, 2026 at the age of 98 (soon to be 99).
She was a cherished mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt. Mary Ellen was a native of Johnson County, TN and moved to Carter County, TN when her health started failing to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law who were her caregivers.
Mary Ellen was born to the late Edward B. Moody and Zola Morefield Moody and was their last living child. She was preceded in death by her husband David James Greer who passed away on September 13, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Dean and Hugh Moody and sisters Blanche Eggers, Eula Taylor, Ruth Taylor, Jennie Lee Moody and Lola Pardue.
Mary Ellen was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, Mountain City, TN and attended Rittertown Baptist Church, Hampton, TN when she moved to Carter County until her health worsened. Mary Ellen would be found each morning reading her Bible.
Mary Ellen had varied jobs during her lifetime including babysitting and food service worker as well as working on the family farm. She loved to cook and always welcomed company to eat. She always raised a large garden and then canned and froze the fruits of her labor to feed her family and anyone else that she could. She loved to work jigsaw puzzles up until a few months before her passing and her children and grandchildren were all gifted with a framed puzzle which will hold a special place in their heart. She cherished visits from her grand and great grandchildren, as well as their furry animals, who brought a smile to her face and a twinkle in her eye.
Those left to cherish her memories are son, Ronnie Greer and wife Bunny; daughter, Sharon Stout and husband Richard; granddaughters Rebecca Tolley (Leon), Jessica Moore (Travis) and Hannah Fleenor (Logan); great grandchildren Mitchell Tolley (Maggie), RJ Tolley, Ezra Tolley, Kendall Moore and Lincoln Fleenor. Also, a special niece, Alice Hite (L.D.) who faithfully visited and assisted in her care when needed. Also surviving are several other nieces and nephews and her extended family the children of Harry and Josephine Kerley; Kathy, Annette, Brenda, Tom and Don.
Visitation with the family will be held at Mountain City Funeral Home on Sunday, January 4th from 1:30 to 2:30 pm followed by funeral services with Pastor Richard Stout.
