Listen to Obituary

Marvin Edward Stansbery, aged 63, passed away on October 11, 2026, surrounded by his wife, two daughters, and extended family. Born December 2, 1962, in Banner Elk, North Carolina, his life was dedicated to loving his family, serving his community, and advocating for youth.

Marvin, a graduate from East Tennessee State University, spent his careers spanning the areas of education and behavioral health as a dedicated advocate for youth. His pride and joy were his family, especially his daughters and grandchildren. Throughout his life, he enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family, and avidly reading. He had a love for reading that shaped many of his relationships. His two grandsons adored bedtime stories with Bapa.

Marvin is survived by his wife of 40 years, Louvenia (Susie) Stansbery; his two daughters, Rebeccah (m. Andres) Tovar and Kathleen (m. Oscar) Fabian; his three grandchildren, Jordan Tovar, Mateo Fabian, and Camila Fabian; his mother and father, Mary and Edward Stansbery; his sister, Charlotte (m. Dan) Andrews; his nephew and niece, Preston Andrews and Tabitha Cook; and his brother-in-law, Tim (m. Kathy) Caldwell.

The family will have a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in honor of Marvin’s love of reading and his grandchildren.

The memories we have with Marvin and the impact on the lives he came in contact with will live long past himself. As he always told his daughters, “I can’t give you the answers, but I can help you figure it out.” He always gave us the tools we needed to figure out life and, though we will miss him deeply, he made sure we were prepared for the next journey.

The family of Marvin Edward Stansbery has entrusted his care to Mountain City Funeral Home, 224 South Church Street, Mountain City, Tennessee 37683.
