Loyd Cox

Loyd Dale Cox, age 90 of Creston, NC, the Flatwoods Community, passed away November 9, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. Loyd was born October 11, 1933 to the late Edgar Cox and Esther Mayberry Cox. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Cox and Rodger Cox, sister, Chessie Eldreth, son-in-law, James Herman Patrick, Jr.

Loyd was a good Christian man; he attended Laurel Springs Community Church where he was a deacon for many years. Loyd was a farmer all of his life, he was plowing fields with horses at the young age of 10. He raised tobacco, beans, and cattle. He spent most of his days during the summer on his red Massey Ferguson tractor plowing fields for his neighbors when he was not working for himself. Loyd was one of the founding members of the Pond Mountain Fire Department.

Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 70 years, Lois Vanover Cox; three daughters, Ann Farmer (Danny), Jane Oliver (Ralph) and Penny Patrick all of Creston, NC; one sister, Lillian Calhoun (Earl) of Crumpler, NC; two brothers, Bill Cox (Kaye) of Warrensville, NC and Walter Cox (Roda) of Creston, NC; one sister-in-law, Louise Cox of Creston, NC; and one uncle, Leonard Cox of Creston, NC; five grandchildren, Crystal Medley (Eric), Johnny Farmer (Rachel), Jessica Murphy, Jimmy Patrick, and Amy Dillard (Tyler); six great-grandchildren, Army Sgt. Jacob Medley, Emmaline Farmer, Miles Murphy, Matthew Murphy, Atalie Dillard, Ivy Dillard, and one on the way.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 13, 2023 at Mountain City Funeral Home with Reverend Danny Joe Farmer and Reverend Spencer Roark officiating. The graveside service and burial will follow the funeral from the Cox and Patrick Cemetery in Creston, NC. Pallbearers will be Walter Cox, Bill Cox, Johnny Farmer, Jimmy Patrick, Miles Murphy, and Tyler Dillard.

Flowers will be appreciated or memorial donations may be made to the Pond Mountain Fire Department.
