Katie Cornett

Wilma Katie (Wallace) Cornett, age 84, of Shady Valley, TN; went to be with the Lord June 13, 2026 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, VA. Katie was born October 6, 1941 to the late Alexander and Helen (Eller) Wallace. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack Wallace, Odell Wallace and Ted Wallace.

She grew up in Shady Valley TN, attending Shady Valley School and helping her parents and siblings with the crops, she worked as a waitress, sewing machine operator and kept the books for her husband’s business. Katie met the love of her life, John Cornett one night at the movies in Damascus, VA; they were married December 24, 1958, celebrating 67 years of a cherished marriage together. Over the years she was involved in several church groups, Sunday school classes and the ladies auxiliary for Shady Valley Fire Dept. Katie attended Harmon Chapel Christian Church.

She is survived by her husband, John Cornett, son, John Cornett. Jr. and wife Penny; grandchildren, Chelsea Long and husband Trey, Austin Cornett and wife Brittany; great grandchildren, Carson Long, Maycee Cornett, Aubree Cornett and Easton Long; sisters, Judy Watson, Shirley Main, and Betty Watson; brothers, Jim Wallace, Bill Wallace, and Dan Wallace and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at Harmon Chapel Christian Church. The funeral service will follow at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor, Randal Johnson and Stewart Jolly officiating. The graveside service and burial will be on Wednesday June 17, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. with Robbie Cornett and Tom Reece officiating at the Alex Wallace Cemetery (Cretsinger Rd., Shady Valley, TN).
