Joseph Glenn Lipford

Joseph Glenn Lipford, 103 of Butler, TN is now face-to-face with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, promoted to Eternity on August 29, 2024 at his home. He was a native of Johnson County, TN, but had lived in Prince William County, VA for 28-years before returning to Johnson County.

Joseph was the son of the late Valentine and Ellen Kite Lipford, and was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen, and one sister, Alma Hayes. Survivors include sister Elza Stout of Mountain City, TN; Lester (Katherine) Lipford of Virginia Beach, VA; daughters Joleen (Gary G.) Marsh of Mountain City, TN; Glenna S. Hood of Tucson, AZ; three grandchildren: JoEllen M. (Michael) Lamoureux of Westwood, MA; Nathan A. (Jamie) Marsh of Dayton, VA; and Kyle A. Hood of Tucson, AZ; two great-grandchildren: Samuel W. Marsh and Autumn R. Lamoureux; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Joseph worked for various companies in the Washington, DC area as a millwright construction worker before his retirement. Prior to his civilian career, he was a decorated US Army World War II veteran, serving in Northern Africa and Northern Italy campaigns under General George S. Patton.

He was a faithful member and deacon at Triangle Baptist Church in Virginia. And later, he served as member and deacon at Cobbs Creek Baptist Church in Butler, TN.

Joseph attained the degree of Master Mason in 1952, and was recognized in 2022 by Roan Creek Lodge No. 679 of Butler, TN for 70 years of faithful service. He was also a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Calvin A. Lloyd Chapter #81 of Quantico, VA.

Joseph was a kind man, loyal, witty, and compassionate, pleasant to all. He enjoyed spending time with family, friends, working on cars and machinery, and growing fruit trees at his home. He was a humble, unassuming man with simple tastes. Frequently asked the secret to long life, he would reply, “I’ve been blessed. The Lord has been good to me.” (Proverbs 22:4)

The family of Joseph Glenn Lipford has entrusted his services to Mountain City Funeral Home, 224 S. Church Street, Mountain City, TN 37683. 

A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, September 16 at 2:00 PM at Cobbs Creek Baptist Church, Butler, TN, with visitation to follow.
