Joseph Dean Shepherd

Joseph Dean Shepherd age, 77 of Mountain City, Tennessee passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at his home. He was born June 18, 1949 to the late Virginia Pearl Shepherd. In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by his daughter, Marsha Odom; several brothers and sisters.

Joe loved to hunt and fish with his best friends. He served in the United States Air Force and was proud to serve 2 ½ years in Vietnam. Joe attended Walters State Community College and worked as a correctional officer for Northeast Correctional Complex until his retirement.

Joe was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish his memories include his son, Joseph Shepherd Jr. and wife Betty of Elizabethton, TN; grandchildren, Nate Shepherd and wife Hannah of Elizabethton, TN and Autumn Shepherd; son-in-law, Leon Odom and wife Shannon; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. on Sunday. August 2, 2026 at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Greg Poe to officiate. Graveside service and burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park with Military Honors Accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard.
