Joseph “Jody” Ray Winebarger, II Jody Winebarger, 50 years of age, from Knoxville, TN departed the bonds of this earth at his beloved grandparents’ farm; and entered Heaven to be with his Heavenly Father on January 3, 2022. Jody was an Army brat, born on February 10, 1971, at Fort Stewart, GA to MSG (R) USA Joseph R. Winebarger and Carol Thomas Winebarger. Jody was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Lane and Pauline Thomas, whom he lovingly called “Poppa” and “Nana,” and Geneva Winebarger whom he called “Granny,” and his two favorite uncles, Francis Winebarger and Norman “Norm” Thomas. Jody was a 1989 graduate of Johnson County High School and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having enlisted in May of 1991. He was stationed aboard the USS Eisenhower with the U.S. Navy’s 34th Attack Squadron, located in the Persian Gulf during Operation Desert Storm. Jody was honorably discharged at Oceana Naval Base in Virginia Beach, VA. Jody then worked for FedEx as a courier and at the time of his death, was a semi driver for FedEx and would have worked 24 years for FedEx at the time of his death. Jody had many friends at FedEx. Jody loved sporty vehicles, especially Corvettes, Jeeps, and motorcycles; and anything that was stimulating and challenging. He had the opportunity to own several of these vehicles over the course of his lifetime. In addition to his parents, Jody is survived by his two daughters, whom he loved more than life itself, Georgia Cori Winebarger, who is also a U.S. Navy Veteran, Chattanooga, TN and Alivia Winebarger Moore and husband Chad of Hixson, TN; only sibling, Lori A. Winebarger of Trade, TN. Also surviving is his only grandchild, Kingston Leigh Moore; one nephew, Joel D. Wells Jr., Hinesville, GA; nieces, Jessica L. Wells, Hinesville, GA; Julia L. Lupo, also a U.S. Navy Veteran, Pensacola, FL; Jamie F. Wedincamp, Atlanta, GA; and his first cousin, Angela Thomas Jendruczek of Chicago, IL and his aunt, Shela Church Thomas, Trade, TN. Also surviving are uncles, Thomas Winebarger, Woodbridge, VA; Glen Winebarger (Kathy), Boone, NC; and Lynn Winebarger (Peggy), Creston, NC. Special mention: Dr. Donald R. Walters (Doc) and wife, Evelyn, whom Jody lovingly called his second Dad and Mom. Several second cousins and many friends also survive. It was Jody’s wish that he be cremated, and no formal service held.
