James Elliott 'Jim' Widener

James Elliott ‘Jim’ Widener, age 74, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, August 6, 2018 at his residence.  He was born on January 26, 1944 to the late Dewey Widener and Virginia Isaacs Widener.  In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Tester and Wanda Boetker and brother, Carl Widener. Jim was a lifelong resident of Mountain City.  He was a former employee of Mountain City Glove Plant, Mountain City Shoe Plant and the Johnson County Highway Department.  He enjoyed sports, and in his youth was known for his abilities on the basketball court.  He was also an avid billiards player.  He loved his friends dearly and enjoyed visiting with them over coffee at several locations in town.  He also enjoyed his daily visits and activities with friends at the Johnson County Senior Center.  He never knew a stranger and was one of the kindest men you could ever meet. He was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church. Those left to cherish his memories include his brother, Bob Widener and wife Denise of Augusta, Georgia, brother-in-law, Ivan Tester of Piney Flats, TN, several special nieces and nephews and his church family who he loved greatly. A visitation will be held from 2-3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 11, 2018 at the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel.  A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Greg Poe officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Johnson County Senior Citizens Center, 128 College St, Mountain City, TN 37683.
