James Lester Garland

James Lester Garland passed away at his residence 137 Fleet Garland Lane, Shady Valley, TN, 37688 on October 16, 2025 from a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his parents Fleet and Lucy Garland; and brother, Dewey Harold Garland.

Lester was a Vietnam veteran serving in the Army. He worked for his father-in-law’s apple orchard and for Bonham Bros. Apple Orchard in Shady Valley and many other jobs. Lester was retired from Raytheon Corp. in Bristol, TN. He always loved being outside.

Surviving is his wife of the home, Linda J. Garland of 35 years; brother, Charles and wife Jean Garland of Arcadia, Florida; sister, Brenda Blondell of Elizabethton, TN; sister-in-law, Idoma Garland; sisters-in- law and brothers-in-law, Louise and Dave Hershberger of Spartanburg, SC, Brenda Morley of Shady Valley, TN, Lester and Teresa Morley of Bristol, TN, Lonnie Morley of Shady Valley, TN, James Morley of Georgia, Kermit and Alice Morley of Shady Valley, TN, Kenneth and Paula Morley of Gray, TN; nephew, Tad Morley and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at Mountain Home National Cemetery with Pastor Richard Stout to officiate. Military honors will be accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Lonnie Morley, Tad Morley, Kermit Morley, Kenneth Morley, and Charlie Garland.

The Garland family wishes to express a special thank you for Lester’s care to VA Medical Center, Shady Valley Paramedics and Fire Department, Johnson County EMS, Elizabethton Amedysis Hospice, Dr. Gary Dula and Brad, Gail Miller, Tonya Winters; Special friends, Evonne and Lloyd, Kim and William.

Special thanks to Lester’s brother-in-law, Lonnie Morley for all he has done for Lester.
