Listen to Obituary

Jake John Lewis went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 10th, 2026 at his home. He was born September 2, 1944, to Asa and Lavica Lewis in Shouns, TN. Jake lived a life marked by his strong Christian faith, hard work, and love for his family. He was a man of undying strength, well-known and well-liked by everyone he encountered. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his infant twin daughters; infant brother, Jack Lewis; brothers, Russell Lewis and Joe Lewis; sister, Kate McCoy; mother-in-law, Marie McGlamery; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jack McCoy, Carl Stout Sr., June Lewis, Mary Ann Edison, Paul Burton, Ella Burton, Cecil McGlamery, Nancy McGlamery, Bob Matthews, Ruth Matthews, Earl McGlamery, Betty McGlamery, Mack McGlamery, Ruth McGlamery, Bob McGlamery, Shirley McGlamery, and Ernie Sprouse.

Jake was a hard and dedicated worker. Aside from working on his family farm through his adolescent years, his career began at Bernhardt Furniture in Lenoir, NC. Then transitioned to the Tri-State Growers, followed by Levi Strauss until the company announced its closure in 1998. At age 54, Jake established his most prized and treasured business, Jake Lewis Hauling. Jake was proud of every job he completed. In addition to his work, he was a cattleman and lifelong farmer, growing tobacco, pumpkins, and produce of all kinds. He was proud to provide for his family and always willing to be a helping hand.

Jake was married to his best friend and sweetheart of 56 years, Arlene. They worked side-by-side daily, never letting a day go by where he didn’t tell her he loved her. His love and devotion to his wife and family was unwavering, admired by not only his children but his grandchildren. Jake and Arlene have served their community faithfully, always finding ways to be of service to their neighbors, especially taking food to those who were bereaved or ill.

Jake loved the Lord. He was a faithful member of Valley View Church. His faith was present in his daily life, guiding him as he grew, and influencing the life he built with his wife.

Although quiet and often soft-spoken, Jake had a laugh that was contagious, and a smile that reached ear to ear. He loved a sweet treat and could be found with a piece of cake, slice of pie or a cone of ice cream. Jake will be remembered for his strong faith, his hardworking spirit, his gracious and generous heart. He loved spending time outside on the back porch and being with his family. They will cherish the love he had for them, remembering the impact he had on each of their lives with endless lessons taught, countless memories, and a life that touched numerous hearts.
