Jacob S. Hodge Jr. (JS/Jay) went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 29, 2026. He was surrounded by his family that he loved so much. Jacob was born to Molly “Ethal” Stanton Hodge, and Jacob Hodge, Sr in Sugar Grove, NC. He was the youngest of nine children. He was preceded in death by his parents Ethal and Jacob “Jake”Hodge, son, Jimmy Hodge, brothers, Lee, Clyde, Bert, Ray and Ralph Hodge. Sisters Laura McQueen,Bonnie Guinn, Anna Dowell, Grandson Jerry Dean Hodge, Jr, and special nephew CJ Hodge. He has lost many family and friends throughout the course of his long life. We are sure he is heaven rejoicing with those who went before him.
Jacob is survived by ex-wife Laura Hodge. His children Jerry (Lesa) Hodge, Ronnie (Rita) Hodge, Russell (Teresa) Hodge, and Scott Hodge (Leanne Shoun). His granddaughter, Casey (Coty) James that he thought more of as a daughter. Grandchildren Tesa, Amber, and Taren Hodge. Great grandchildren Jordan (Josephine), Kaitlyn, Makenzie James, Brayden, Lacey, Isaiah, David Otey, Gabriel Hodge, Etsal “George”Hodge. Great great grandchild June James. Jacob was also known as “Poppy”, “Papie’’ and “Papaw” to those who were close with him. Jacob enjoyed playing with every child he met. Special niece Joyce (Jerold) Roark. Special friends Charlotte Dugger, Steve McNeal, Freda Wagner, Beulah Mae Ward, Billy James and Burl Campbell.
Jacob enjoyed driving around and stopping by to visit friends and family. Jacob worked many jobs throughout his life. Laying brick and mushroom houses in Pennsylvania. But when he got a job at Burlington, he worked there for 40 years until he retired in 2002. His greatest accomplishment was children, and grandchildren, and helping those he loved. He loved to be at home. He was always working outdoors mowing, weed eating, gardening, or working on something. He helped many neighbors work on outdoor equipment or anything else needed. He was an avid gardener. He had the most impressive garden in the county and often blessed many people with his produce and fruits during the summertime. He loved to help Casey can the fruits and vegetables, He has instructed each of his family members or friends on the “proper” way to plant a garden and would definitely tell you if he thought it was wrong and then he would fix it. When he was able, he liked hunting for ginseng. He could often be found fishing and hunting. He didn’t start hunting until later in life and snagged some impressive deer. He would fish for hours whether he caught anything or not.
Per his request, the family will not have a service. Jacob wanted to be cremated. Friends and family are more than welcome to visit any of the family at their homes.
