Jabin Vaught “Ben” Simcox, Jr.     Jabin Vaught “Ben” Simcox Jr. age 79, passed away September 28, 2019 at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born June 10, 1940 in Mountain City, TN to the late Jabin V. and Ruby H. Simcox.   Ben graduated in 1958 from Johnson County High School, Mars Hill College. After a short time at East Tennessee State College, he served 4 years in the United States Marine Corp. After leaving the military in 1965, Ben worked as a supervisor at Blue Ridge Shoe Company, then owned Amoco Service Station on Hwy 421 for 3 years, but ultimately pursued his love for farming in Neva, TN. He was one of the largest tobacco producers in the county and worked closely with the University of Tennessee Ag. Extension office to develop and promote efficient burley tobacco farming. In 1981, he became the operator for Brownlow Water Utility and was an integral part of Mountain City Cycle for the last 30 years and was a Stihl master mechanic.   Ben had many interests. He was member of the Johnson County Jaycees, served on the board of Farm Bureau, restored and flew a Stentson single engine airplane, and was an avid Tennessee Vol Fan and you may have seen him in his 1977 Tennessee orange Chevrolet pickup.   Although he was the jack of all trades, his true passion was singing. He was the Choir director at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church for 17 years, sang high tenor in a gospel quartet, and played doghouse bass and sang with several bluegrass groups. Ben was currently attending Butler Baptist Church.   He is remembered with love by; his soulmate, Sheila Fenner; Brother, Joe and wife Teresa Simcox; Sister; Mary Jean and husband W.H. Goodwyn; Son, Michael Simcox, Bonnie and Son, Noah; Daughter, Celeste Simcox Dunn (Barbara Shull Simcox, mother of his children); Grandchildren, Sam and wife Hannah Dunn, Izzy Dunn; Great Grandchild, Jaxon Dunn; Best Friend, Dylan Nichols; Special Friends, Joe Stanley, “Breakfast Buddies” at Neva Grill.   The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Mountain City Funeral Home. It was Ben’s wishes to be cremated.   At other times the family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Celeste Simcox Dunn 552 Roan Creek Rd., Mountain City, TN 37683 and at the home of Sheila’s mom Drue Balderson 118 Airport Rd.
