Harry J. Smith Sr., age 89, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at the Mountain City Care Center. He was born on October 8, 1928 in Lenoir, North Carolina.  He loved the outdoors and his many cats.  He was a scout master for many years and a member of the First District Volunteer Fire Department in Laurel Bloomery, TN. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Horton Smith, mother and father, Doris Alexander and Gertrude Spainhour Smith, sister, Loretta Chester and husband Paul and brother, Tom Smith and wife Lou. Mr. Smith is survived by three sons, Aaron Smith and wife Jean of Charlotte, NC, Joe Smith and wife Rose Rasmussen Smith of Mountain City, TN, William ‘Mitchell’ Smith of Zionville, NC; daughter, Carolyn Smith Younce and husband George of Zionville, NC; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. It was Mr. Smith’s wishes that no formal service be held.  A private burial will be held at a later date. The family respectfully requests no flowers or food.  Memorials may be made in his memory to your local chapter Boy Scouts of America and/or your local humane society or animal shelter. We would like to thank the staff at Mountain City Care Center as well as Dr. John Whitlock and Daniel Jones for the excellent care they have provided for our father during his last days.  We truly appreciate each and every one of you.
