Wiley Fredrick Ramsey, age 85, passed away August 13, 2026 in Abingdon, VA. Fred was born November 25, 1940 to the late W.V. Pete Ramsey and Myrtle Eileen Milam Ramsey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Judy Ramsey; brother, Roger Ramsey; son-in-law, Ronnie Henson; grandchildren, Nick and Molly Blackwell and great granddaughter, Harper Willow Blackwell.

Fred proudly served his country in the Navy as a supply officer aboard the USS Goodrich. He later retired as a captain after many years. His years of military service reflected the dedication, leadership, and commitment that he carried with him throughout the rest of his life. After his time in the Navy, Fred devoted many years to the family business, Ramsey’s 5 & 10, where he dedicated himself wholeheartedly to serving the business and the people of his community. The store became much more than a place of business—it was a part of Fred’s life and a place where he built countless friendships and lasting memories. Fred was also a faithful member of First Christian Church of Mountain City, where his faith was an important part of his life. He loved to sing and was blessed with a love for music that he shared generously with others through the Ramsey Family Quartet.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Marsu Horton and Chelley Henson; son, Rick Ramsey; sister, Marty Dabney (Larry); sister-in-law, Helen Ramsey; grandchildren, Tiffany Stout, Lucas Henson (Haylie), Trevor Henson (Faith); great grandchildren, Amelia Stout, Colton, Hadlie, and Winnie Henson; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 3:00-4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. with Minister Gerald Holly and Evangelist Rick Ramsey officiating. The graveside service and burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Lucas Henson, Trevor Henson, Colton Henson, Bo Henson, Donnie Henson, Rick Ramsey, and Scotty Campbell. Honorary pallbearers are the elders and deacons of First Christian Church.

The family of Wiley Fredrick Ramsey has entrusted his services to Mountain City Funeral Home, 224 S. Church Street, Mountain City, TN 37683.
