Emogene Miller

Emogene Miller, age 85 of Zionville, NC passed away on May 31, 2023, at Mountain City Care and Rehabilitation Center.


Emogene loved her family and church with her whole heart, especially her granddaughter Emma.  She was a faithful member of Zionville Baptist Church. Emogene worked for many years at Shadowline Incorporated of Boone, NC.  She enjoyed reading her Bible, sewing, gardening, and quilting.


Emogene was born August 21, 1937, to Oscar and Maude Brown Reece of Trade, TN. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Bobby Ross Miller, her sister Pauline Johnson and brother Freddie Reece.


She is survived by her son Gary Miller (Rube) and granddaughter Emma Brown. Her sisters include Louise May of Nottingham, PA, Faye Warren of Mountain City, TN, Virginia Oliver of Zionville, NC, and Becky Wilson of Mountain City, TN. Her brothers include Bobby Reece of Trade, TN, and Lynn Reece and wife Pat of Zionville, NC. Brother-in-law John Johnson of Todd, NC.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. 


Special friends in Emogene’s life were Wilma (Bill) Miller, Loretta Combs, Ollie Jean Phipps, and Jewel Thomas.


Pallbearers are David May, Chris Oliver, Melvin Humphrey, Darrell Thomas, Kevin Thomas, Derrick Miller, Jim Reece, and Butler Reece.
Honorary pallbearers are John Johnson, Larry Miller, Albert Thomas, Tyler Tart, and Ronnie Garland, Jimmy Harmon, and Lester Reece.


Special thanks to Dr. Jim Shine and the staff of Mountain City Care and Rehabilitation Center.


Celebration of Life Services will be conducted at Zionville Baptist Church on Sunday June 4, 2023, at 3:00 pm with the Reverend Derick Wilson and Pastor Ray Branch officiating. The music will be provided by the church choir. Family Visitation will take place from 2:00 until 3:00 pm. 


Entombment will follow at Zionville Baptist Church Mausoleum.


The family will receive friends at the home of Emogene’s sister, Faye Warren, located at 151 Claude Warren Rd. Mountain City, TN, 37683.


In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
