Emma Greer

Listen to Obituary

Emma Greer, 97, of Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at home on September 8th, 2026, surrounded by the people who loved her dearly.

Emma was born to the late Alvin and Myrtle Dunn. Emma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. Those who knew Emma will remember her for her beautiful smile, her generous heart, and the unconditional love she had for her family. She had a way of making everyone feel welcome and loved. If you came to her home, you could be sure you would never leave hungry. Emma loved to cook and always seemed to cook enough food to feed an army. She also had a true gift for sewing and spent countless hours creating beautiful quilts. Each quilt was made with love and became a treasured reminder of the hands and heart that made it. Emma loved gardening and her flowers, and she had what everyone knew was a true green thumb. She took great joy in watching things grow and bloom.

More than anything, Emma loved her family. Her home, her kitchen, her garden, her quilts, and her smile were all expressions of that love. The memories she created and the love she gave will continue to live on through the generations of her family.

Emma leaves behind her three sons, Larry Greer, Jerry (Wanda) Greer, and Steve (Nancy) Greer, who were so very precious to her. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Zach Watson, Shawna (Taylor) Smith, and Hannah (Austin) Cruey, and her great-grandchildren, Ryan Smith, Breanna Greer, Alexander Smith, and Anderson Smith. Several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eugene Greer.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Gentiva Hospice, Sue Ann Hawkins, Linda Byrd , and especially her special niece and caregiver, Sandra Crowder, for the love, care, kindness, and support they provided to Emma and her family. Special friends Betty Schuenaman, Peggy Long and the Keene family.

Emma’s 97 years were filled with love, family, hard work, beautiful memories, and a legacy that will never be forgotten. Though she may no longer be here to welcome us into her kitchen, tend to her flowers, make another quilt, or greet us with that beautiful smile, the love she gave us will remain forever.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026 at Mountain City Funeral Home. The graveside service and burial will follow at Acre Field Cemetery with Kenneth Phipps officiating. Pallbearers will be Zach Watson, Ryan Smith, Austin Cruey, Taylor Smith, Sammy Crowder, and David Shaw. Honorary pallbearers are Paul Morrison, Eric Taylor, David Keith, and Travis Wilson.
