Elizabeth Hunt Cook, beloved daughter, sister, mother, and friend, passed away on May 26, 2025 from complications of advanced-stage dementia. She was 59 years old.
Born on December 10, 1965, in Cape Canaveral, FL, Liz grew up in the beachside town of Indian Harbour Beach, FL where her joyful spirit and caring heart first began to shine. She graduated from Satellite High School and pursued her academic dreams with determination and purpose. In 1989, Liz earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from The Florida State University. She spent her early years as a parole officer and a social worker before returning to school and receiving her Master of Business Administration from the University of Central Florida in 1999.
Liz went on to work for Harris Corporation as a Project Manager in Defense. During that time, her work involved strategic projects, and she was awarded 2 U.S. patents. Later, she changed her career path and worked for Verizon as a Scrum Project Manager. Her professional life was marked by dedication, intelligence, and a genuine desire to make a difference.
Among all her accomplishments, Liz’s greatest joy in life was her son, Maxwell Cook. Even though Liz and David parted ways, the love she had for Max endured as the most beautiful part of her life. She cherished every moment they spent together traveling from Legoland in CA to Comic Con, from Disney World to the landscapes of Italy and Scotland. Liz took every opportunity to explore the world with Max and teach him its wonders through her eyes.
Liz will be remembered for her beautiful, warm smile and her infectious laugh that could light up a room. She had a playful sense of humor and loved to laugh, especially with the people she loved most. Her brothers, Matthew and Adam, could get her laughing so hard when they were telling stories! Liz found joy in everyday moments and brought brightness wherever she went.
Liz’s kindness extended to all creatures, especially birds. When her beloved mother passed, Liz took care of her mother’s bird Bobby Birdie, and cared for him as a treasured companion. Even as a child, Liz loved saving animals. There was always a new pet hiding in her bedroom.
In her final years, Liz bravely faced the challenges of dementia. Surrounded by the unwavering support of her family, she was cared for with deep compassion by her brother Adam and his wife Deanna, first in North Carolina and later in Tennessee. Recognizing that Liz’s needs had grown beyond what could be provided at home, Adam and Deanna ensured she was placed in the caring hands of the Christian Assisted Living Memory Care Center in Johnson City, TN. Their devotion and love brought Liz comfort, dignity, and peace.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her loving mother, Dae Turnbull Hunt, and her father Patrick Petty. She is survived by her son, Maxwell Cook; her stepfather, Jim Hunt; her brothers, Matthew Hunt (Laura) and Adam Hunt (Deanna); and countless family members and friends who walked beside her on this journey.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who supported Liz during her life and illness. Your love, presence, and prayers meant the world to her and to all of us who loved her. Our family is planning a celebration of life in the Fall in North Carolina.
