Earl Pope

Earl Pope Sr., age 86, passed away on September 1, 2021 at his home in Boone, NC. Earl was born on January 31, 1935 to the late Spencer and Opal Pope. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ronnie Pope, Blaine Pope, Frank Pope; grandson, Taylor Greer; great grandson, Peyton Lee Spars. Earl worked for Broyhill Furniture Plant for 37 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and building birdhouses and flower boxes. Earl took good care of his family and not only raised his children but also his brothers and sisters. He was the greatest man and there will never be another like him. Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 39 years Kay Denise Pope; daughters, Deborah Louise Pope (Terry), Donna Carol Ward (Larry), Teresa Lee Shoemake (David), Lesa Arnold (Leonard), Laura Pope Rook (Randy); sons, Earl Pope Jr (Mae), Michael Pope (Sam); sisters, Mae Byrd (Johnny), Bernice Wilson, Louise Eggers (Donald); brother, Edward Spencer Pope, Dean Pope (Peggy); grandchildren, Christian Ward (Marti), Penny Greene (Tyler), Torry Loftin (Matt), Jessica Marsh (Caleb), Tiffany Luna (Nick), Hank Pope (Kelsey), Justin Pope (Autumn), Vanessa Pope, Alexus Stevens, Alyssa Akers (Matt), David Tyler Shoemake, Jonathan Pope, James Michael Pope, Tonya Pope, Jenna Wallace, Andrew Wallace, Deanna Pope; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. It was Earl’s wish to be cremated. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Mountain City Funeral Home.
