Doris "Topsy" Greer

Doris “Topsy” Greer, age 80, of Trade, TN, passed away on Friday December 22, 2023 at her home.  She was born October 11, 1943 in Johnson County, TN to the late Mary Gambill. In addition to her mother she was preceded in death by her grandson, Adam Greer and by her sister, Stella Proffitt.

Topsy had that bubbly personality-she didn’t know a stranger. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Topsy was a business owner for many years and known for the Mountaineer Restaurant and Poplar Ridge Gas Station.

Those left to cherish her memories include her husband of 64 years, Abe Greer; sons, Kent Greer and Stephen Greer and wife Sheila all of Trade, TN; granddaughters, Summer Greer of Mountain City, TN and Kalley and Belinda of Bowling Green, KY; grandsons, Preston and Samuel Greer of Mountain City, TN and Donald Dickens and wife Jasmine of Christiana, TN; niece, Regina Matheson of Mountain City, TN a daughter she never had; great-granddaughters, Amberlynn, Shelby, and Quinn Reece, of Mountain City, TN and Lyla and Elsie Dickens of Christiana, TN; great-grandson, Troy Reece of Mountain City, TN; first great-great grandson due March 2024, Izaias Reece; two sisters, Lucy Miller and Lena Dugger of Mountain City, TN; several nieces and nephews; and special longtime best friend, Muriel Payne.

Per Topsy’s wishes a graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Greer-Main Cemetery with Pastors Gary Gambill and Derrick Wilson to officiate.

 The family would like to extend a special thank you to Regina Matheson for helping with the caregiving the past few months.
