Dayton Floyd Furches

Dayton Floyd Furches, age 77, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Catawba Valley Medical Center. He was born November 10, 1947 to the late Albert and Annie Furches. In addition to his parents Dayton was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Barbara Furches; maternal grandparents, John and Texie May; paternal grandparents, Alexander Furches and Nancy Caroline Osborne; siblings, Jerry Furches, Kenneth Furches, Daniel Furches, Betty Potter; nephews, Gary Furches, Scott Snyder, Sonny Potter; niece, Melody Snyder; mother and father-in-law, Hardin and Myrtle Snyder; brothers-in-law, Daney Peters, Carl Snyder, Ralph Jennings and Barney Jennings.

Dayton was a proud United States Army Veteran and always willing to help out other veterans. He loved all his family and deeply missed his wife, Barbara. In his younger days he enjoyed going fishing at the coast with his buddies. Dayton liked to joke and cut up; he enjoyed making people laugh. He was handy with all sorts of things and liked to tinker. Dayton retired from the furniture industry after many years of service.

Those left to cherish his memories include his daughter and caregiver, Shelby Ann Furches; son, Dayton Shane Furches (Sandra); grandchildren, Michael Dalton Furches (Ashley), Joshua Shane Furches (Whitney), Will Teague, Spencer Stone Furches (Vanessa), Abby Nicol Furches; great grandchildren, Isaiah Furches, Colin Furches, Liam Furches, Annie Marie Furches, and Nikki Rae Fortner; brothers, Junior Furches, Tim Furches, Jim Furches; sisters, Lucille Jennings, Willa Gray Jennings, Janice Humphrey (Sandy); sisters-in-law, Joan Peters, Joyce Snyder, and Sue Roark (Pablo); brother-in-law, Junior Potter; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; special friends, Shorty Caldwell and Harold Lunceford.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at Mountain City Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at Sunset Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard.
