David Blevins

Listen to Obituary

David Allen Blevins, born September 1, 1962 to Melvin and Mary Louise Blevins, left this world surrounded by family, to meet his Lord on October 3, 2026.

He was a member of Green Cove Baptist Church. He proudly served his country joining the United States Army in August of 1980 after graduation from Holston High School, where he served 3 years and was honorably discharged in August of 1983. After leaving the service, David made his home in Green Cove Community; he worked with his father, brother, and uncles, learning the building trade. He was an excellent carpenter and mason. He loved classic country music, especially Merle Haggard, which was often heard coming from his stereo. He also was an avid fan of Dale Earnhardt and loved collecting his memorabilia.

David loved his family dearly; he cherished his mother, children and grandchildren fiercely. He was known by all great nieces and nephews to have some chocolate candy hidden and he was always glad to share with them. He was always the first cheerfully willing to help his family with anything needed, whether it was helping move someone, working on a car, painting a house or any other job that was needed.

He is preceded in death by his father Melvin Blevins, his paternal grandparents John and Mary Alice Blevins, and his maternal grandparents Rob and Agnes Greer.

David is survived and will be missed so much by his mother Mary Louise Blevins of the home; His beloved children: son David Blevins Jr., (D.J) of Troutdale Va.; daughter Nicole (Nikki) Hayton, (Ryan) of Abingdon, Va; Son Mark Blevins of Damascus, VA; His siblings: Diana Morefield, (Bill) of Mountain City, TN; Brothers Rick Blevins, (Judy) of Troutdale, VA; Jamie Blevins, (Angie) of Meadowview, VA; His grandchildren: Rhyan Pafford, Carson Pafford, Ellie Hayton, Morgan Blevins; Several Aunts, Uncles, Nieces and Nephews.

The family wishes to deeply express our gratitude to MSA Hospice of Abingdon, VA for their care of David. He loved them all and looked forward to their visits, all his nurses, especially nurse Jennifer Bowers and Chaplain Josh Vestal.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at Green Cove Missionary Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Bill Morefield and to officiate. The burial will follow the funeral at the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Blevins Jr., John Walls, Eddie Walls, Tony Walls, Doug Blevins, Ryan Hayton, and Jordon Johnson. Honorary pallbearer is Bobby Greer.
