Darrell Donald Brinkley, 88, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at his home in Shady Valley, TN following a brief illness. Darrell was born in Shady Valley and spent most of his life working in the sawmill industry. He owned and operated Valley Supply in Shady Valley, which is still in operation today. Darrell had an extraordinary way of bringing happiness to the people close to him through his simple life stories, undeniable humor and unforgettable jokes. His love for Shady Valley set the foundation for every joke that he told. Those who encountered him walked away with a smile on their face, love in their heart and a vision of the man with the black handlebar mustache. Darrell was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma “Doddle” Brinkley; parents, William and Metta Brinkley; three sisters, Etta, Floy and Grace; five brothers, Gervis, Iva, Odell, Floyd and George. He is survived by his daughter, Sherry (Guy) Riggs of Kingsport, TN; grandchildren Samuel and Lara Riggs of Kingsport, TN along with several cousins, nieces and nephews. An all-day viewing will be held on Friday, July 3, 2020 at Mountain City Funeral Home. Visitation with family will follow from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. The graveside service will be open to friends and family on Saturday, July 4, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Blevins Cemetery in Shady Valley, TN with Pastor Larry Hall officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shady Valley Ruritan Club and Shady Valley Volunteer Fire Department. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the people of Shady Valley for all of the generous acts of kindness offered to Darrell throughout his years. He will be remembered and missed by many.
