Burl James Johnson, Jr.

Burl James Johnson, Jr. age 67, of Mountain City, TN passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 3, 2024. He was born in Detroit Michigan on October, 12, 1956 to the late Burl James Johnson, Sr. and Alberta Burke.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son Benjamin Johnson, brother, Darrell Johnson and grandchild, Abigail Johnson.

Burl was an Engineer in Commercial Construction and Pilot. He was an avid turkey hunter, enjoyed reading history and watching westerns. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and a leader of the Good News Bible Study. Those who knew him best knew his love for the Lord. Burl was a faithful Christian, loving husband, father and grandfather and will be truly missed by all.

Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 24 years, Julia Schanzle, daughters, Leslie Thacker and husband Chad, Jessica Infinger and husband Brian; sister, Joetta Johnson; brother, Dale Johnson; grandchildren,   Taylor Golden, Victoria Johnson, Kaitlyn Johnson, Devin Johnson, Andrew Calhoun and wife Carly, Alyssa Cooley, Breann Infinger, Peyton Infinger and Zoey Infinger; great-grandchildren, Delilah Calhoun, Kevin Calhoun, Caleb Cooley and River Johnson.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 6, 2024 at Bethany Baptist Church(5950 Hwy 67 W. Mountain City, TN, 37683). The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at 12:00 noon at Bethany Baptist Church with Pastor Gale Hartley officiating. The graveside service and burial will immediately follow at Brookshire Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
