Billy Jack Cowan, 76 of Butler, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2026.
He was a generous and hospitable man who had a gift for making people feel welcome and loved. His kindness, warmth, and genuine love for others left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
He enjoyed many of life’s simple pleasures. He was an avid NASCAR fan, loved playing golf, spending time on the lake, and watching his favorite sports and westerns. But of all the things he enjoyed, nothing compared to the time he spent with his grandchildren. They were his greatest joy. He loved each of them dearly and treasured every moment he was able to share with them.
He will be remembered not only for the things he loved but for the way he loved his family and friends- with generosity, lots of food, hospitality and an open heart.
He is survived by his children, Renee Ybarra (Jason Ybarra), Julie Lund, and Laura Jordan (Landon Jordan); grandchildren, Makaylee Ybarra, Grayson Ybarra, Cy Ybarra, Layla Lund, Hendrix Lund, Leyton Jordan, Launa Jordan and Lynnie Jordan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Julia Guy Cowan and Wiley Cowan and his siblings, William Thomas “Tom” Cowan and Glen Allen Cowan.
A celebration of life will be held on a later date. The family will post details when they have been finalized.
His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, especially in the stories, laughter, and precious memories shared with his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
The family of Billy Jack Cowan has entrusted his services to Mountain City Funeral Home, 224 S. Church Street, Mountain City, Tennessee 37683.
