Beverly Burns Weatherford of Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born on May 24, 1938, in Pittsburg, PA. She was a graduate of Lake Worth High School in Lake Worth, Fl; earned her bachelor's degree from Pikeville College in Pikeville, KY; and earned her master’s degree from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC.
In addition to her parents; Jane Ferguson, Stepfather Benjamin Ferguson, and Father Chester Curtis; she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Thomas Weatherford.
Those left to cherish Beverly’s memory include her daughter, Laura Weatherford; son, Joseph Weatherford and wife Leanne; grandchildren, Alex Weatherford and wife Deborah, Kirsche Dowdy and husband Matthew, and Thomas Latham; she also had two great grandchildren, Cadence and Joseph Morgan. Beverly had two nephews and one niece: Jim Weatherford, with daughters Julie, Jennifer, and Hannah; Bill Weatherford; and Mary Weatherford, with children Marc, Haley (deceased), and Todd. Beloved friends include John Burns from Boone, NC and Barbra Ananos, from Jupiter Beach, FL.
Beverly lived a life of service to her church, her family, and her community. She began her career as an educator in 1962 and retired in 2003. She began teaching in Johnson County, TN in 1976, and touched the lives of an estimated three generations of the county’s children. After her retirement, she continued to serve the Mountain City First United Methodist Church by participating in the church choir, food pantry, annual bazar, and the church’s thrift shop. Beverly also remained active in her community by volunteering at Heritage Hall and the public library. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and quilting; and was a founding member of the “Tennessee Sunrise Quilt Guild”. She was a loving wife and mother who always put her family first.
The family will receive visitors from 2:30 until 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at Mountain City First United Methodist Church. A celebration of life will follow at 4:00 p.m. with the Reverend John Crabtree officiating. A private interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Mountain City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First District Volunteer Fire Depart or the First United Methodist Church Food Pantry and outside blessing box.
