Annis Gentry, age 100 ½ , of Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday evening, May 21, 2019 at the Mountain City Care Center. She was born September 7, 1918 in Johnson County, TN to the late Richard Bruce Hawkins Sr. and Minnie Blanche Felts Hawkins. In addition to her parents Annis was preceded in death by her husband, Spencer Gentry; granddaughter, Beverly Carty; sisters, Velma Gentry and Lillian Hawkins; brothers, Richard Hawkins Jr., Wilton Hawkins, Willard Hawkins, Newton Hawkins, W. Calvin Hawkins, Lee Hawkins and half-brother, Walter Shumate; son-in-law, Bill Icenhour and daughter-in-law, Jean Gentry.

Annis, a servant of God first and foremost, was the oldest living member of Stateline Baptist Church.  She was a charter member of the WMU and taught Sunday School for many years.   

Annis was an independent lady who believed in the value of a good days work.  Though she never worked a public job she was a true housewife, mother, grandmother and homemaker.  She was a gifted seamstress and gardener and enjoyed growing beautiful flowers.  At the young age of 90, you could go by her home and find her mowing and working in her yard.    

When asked about her long life she would reply with the scripture from Exodus 20:12, Honour thy father and thy mother; that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. 

Those left to cherish her memories include her daughter, Phyllis Icenhour; son, Derrell Gentry; sister, Bonnie Icenhour; sister--in-law, Bonnie Ruth Hawkins; grandchildren, Kim Garrett and husband Don,and Becky Jo Eastridge and husband Johnny; great grandchildren, Andy Lewis and wife Brittany, Leanna Garrett and Katie Timbs; great -great granddaughter, Harper Lewis; numerous nieces and nephews, her church family and many special friends and neighbors. 

 The family will receive friends from 2-4:00 p.m. Monday, May 27, 2019 at the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel.  Funeral service will follow at 4:00 p.m. with Pastors Michael Icenhour and Paul Graybeal officiating.  Special music will be provided by Sharon Winters and Sherry Stout.  Graveside service and interment will follow the funeral from the Stateline Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Johnny Eastridge, Kenny Icenhour, Ross Hawkins, Eric Wallace, Steve Hawkins and Eric Taylor.  Honorary pallbearers are Larry Widener, Stacy Greer, David Pennington, Freddy Carty, Don Garrett and Joe Ray Gentry.

The family wishes to express their appreciation and gratitude to Shirley Reece and all the staff at Mountain City Care Center, Silver Angels and Amedysis for all their loving care, kindness, compassion and true friendship.   

At other times the family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Phyllis Icenhour, 302 Shoun Street, Mountain City, TN .
