Sandra "Ann" Brown Cress, age 78 of Mountain City, TN went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, October 16, 2026 at the Mountain City Care and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her family. Ann was born February 25, 1948 in Johnson County, TN to the late James A. "Jim" Brown and Vennie Tester Brown of Mountain City, TN. She was preceded in death by her brother, J.D. Brown in 2001.
Ann was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles and was very good at it. Ann was a very kind woman and the life she lived was a testament of her faith.
Ann worked hard all her life and after retirement she became a caregiver. Caregiving is not only caring for someone, but it is giving your time, energy, patience and your best. Ann did all of these, she was strong and resilient looking after others never putting herself first. The Cress family will always be grateful for her compassion.
Ann is survived by her husband of 40 years Sam Cress, Sister-in-law Sylvia Brown of Conover, NC. Nephew Douglas Keith, niece Lisa Marie. Aunt Lucille Brown of Mountain City, TN, Uncles Clifford and Mack Brown. Sister-in-law Margaret Cress of Mountain City, TN, brother-in-law Jim Cress of Midlothian, VA. Ann's special friend and neighbor Patty Young and Ann's cat Chance. Patty graciously took Chance to care for when Ann was no longer able.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 19, 2026 at Mountain City Funeral Home (Mountain City, TN) with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Mike Penley to officiate. Music will be provided by Mrs. Jill Penley and a Eulogy by Ms. Patty Young.
Pallbearers will be friends and neighbors.
Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of Mountain City Care and Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care and support Ann received.
